Life long amateur botanist and plant breeder here. My focus has been on disease trials and epigenetic training of feralized ganja. Much of the American genetics has been bottle-necked and all descends from appropriated genetics from smugglers and foreing military occupation, and selected for a market driven by greed and obsession with just one of the cannabis plants attributes. So decided to abandon pedigree breeding until selections from a fully acclimated volunteer seedlings can be made. I watch them grow themselves or die. This is my 9th leaf with cannabis in the garden, though my plant breeding experience goes back 25 years, the progress with canbabis is much faster than with plants which take years to mature and bloom. In many ways cannabis is a model plant for learning the basics of breeding. Chatting about botany is a favorite pastime. Hope to see this forum grow!
Wow this is exactly what I always tell to people, from areas where local genetics are lost, we need to do: trying to re establish varieties that can acclimate to the areas untill we will have new heirlooms and Landraces !
Maybe is a process that will take 50 years or more but is worth to do for the future generations , and yes you are right doing this is with ganja is much faster compared with most of other plants species
