What is the proper way to make traditional thai sticks that our fathers raved about from the 60’s-80’s
In Phon Sawan district we still have many elderly that can tell you the story from their own life experience.
So I have visited them as many as possible. The Thai stick was mostly made using the HANG KRARORK (Squirrel Tail) Landrace but also other varieties in minor quantities.
During the 60s the process was made with more care but fro the end of that time prohibition has become more strictly enforced and they start to make everything more fast and with less resources as they needed to hide from helicopters and police
Basically they was cutting the ganja, then they dry one or two days only most of times directly under the sun and then they will take the flowers remove the sticks, the leaves and the seeds and wrap with a string this flowers around some stick usually made with bamboo or wood
Here I share some photos of original farmers who show how to make
Note. In this photo we used ganja that was partially purple because was the one available at that moment, but the original one was made with green ganja only
So cool and thanks for showing those pictures really intrigued me, im definitely gonna portion some golden string and mekhong to the side to make some
Yes you have to make when they are still a little bit wet
Makes sense , finish dry/ curing on stick?
Yes, and later you can keep them long time.
Is it only wrapped for storage or do you smoke it on the stick?
Cannot smoke the stick, is made only for transport storage and also for easy smuggling in the black market.
Also they was used to put together 20 stick together in one “pack” called “One tang” and they people buy like that
@Thewombat1968 Discuss about Thai Stick in this topic
I think the real problem is not legalization but prohibitions
We need to free the Herb worldwide and the outdoors organic will prevail again
Respect ![]()
Now if you make Thai Stick nobody buy ![]()
This why cannot find the real. They sell the flowers only dried modern way now
But the stick is only a way to craft the flowers are the same. You can find the flowers also in our day
Just look for Squirrel Tails and Tiger Tail or Foitong from traditional farmers
Same of the Old School Thai stick
I invited you to tal about this on the topic better
Mike Ferguson photo of Thai Ganja from the 70s. He call it “Thai Stick” variety but it does not exist a “Thai Stick” variety. Was probably (but of course I cant be sure) a Squirrel Tails Hang Krarork
I took this 2 photos from one IG his name mexcurandero or something like that and he is specialist to publish old photos of ganja taken from books or other places
In 70 I was in Thailand. Only ganja was big bag flower. No sticks. In Vietnam or Laos no thai sticks, joints or flowers only. Mostly sell sticks to GIs along roads in Thailand. USA little secret - people stayed up all night tying good domestic buds on sticks. Wasn’t Thai Stick it was Tied Stick. To the best of my recollection …
@Prempavee can you tell me some more about Thai red thread / red string? I managed to collect approximately 200-250 bag seeds
