Masanobu Fukuoka was a Japanese biologist that at one point of his life quit his job in the University to buy a small land under the bridge of a highway and whent there to farming rice.
He become famous because he rapidly demonstrated how his techniques that where based on 3 basic revolutionary rules (no fertilize - no watering - no weeding) where producing up to 3 time more harvest x sqm compared with conventional and traditional methods
After his results in the rice field become known they have begun to invite him to hold many conferences and events all around the world
He also expanded his farm little in the mountain and start growing oranges too where his son still producing and selling to the Japanese market
The following documentary is a precious document that everyone interested on natural agriculture should watch and learn about
Also very famous his book the “One Straw Revolution”
And one of my favorite quotes from the following video is “Human being? Better do nothing.”
If you want to be a good farmer, learn how to do nothing and if you really really cannot resist then you can make clay balls.
Im in the midst of starting an organic farm and i got some nice inputs from this one
Nature knows best
I allways thought both trees and ganjaplants are at their best when grown to their full expression without topping. I feel like i get to know the plant more when see their full growth Though it absolutely is fun to experiment and even is beneficial to some plants and grows
Yes, I consider him the base where all the modern concepts of Permaculture, Synergic gardens, no tilling come from. His work is much more complex of what can looks like at first glance. He was a very experienced biologist and there is also a lot of academic documents and research done by him. Not very accessible and easy to find but exist and I suggest anyone who get in touch with to play attention and learn from him.
The clay balls are quite symbolic and in my experience in Italy not necessarily effective. Unless you follow the advice of Fukuoka to block access to rodent and other small mammal they become food for them.. there are more documentaries out there about him, with the watch
It’s so exiting to learn about nature and natural farming. I swapped for growing organic ganja over 20 years ago but i just used bottles with nutrient and never really understood what was happening. Now i’m working hard on learning the konsept of living soil and i’m so amazed by what nature can do
No till or close to no till is my goal
My wife has a more laid back way of let nature do it’s thing while i do a lot more adding with varying results
