Mekhong Classic comes from 1000 seeds that I was able to get in 2022 from a 92 years old woman that she is the “boss” of a village of farmers that have never stop to grow even during prohibitions.
This seeds they where quite variegated compared with other landraces and many slightly different expressions where present.
Because I did not imagined that this family was going to lose their own genetics in only one year I didn’t save all expressions but I focused on the plants that where higher on THC and had the plant structure that I felt was the most harmonious. When I tested them in 2023 I got between 17 and 18.5% THC and between 1-2% CBG and a clean 0% CBD.
This was the highest THC level for a Landrace reported by that lab test in the whole year. Some very expert people also they told me that is an incredible percentage and some of them like Arjan they don’t even believe this was possible for a Landrace.
The first two years I was putting in the field at least 20/30 new plants every 10/15 days just for experimental reason to observe what they do in different seasons.
At one point in 2024 I got some results from the lab of a Mekhong Classic (many plants) with 14% THC 14% CBD 1% CBG
I was initially very happy as some customers they was specifically looking for 1:1 ratio and they told me I was blessed to have a ganja like that because they told me old genetics with 1:1 ratio are special and very valuables I believed them
But later I learn from Eloise that this 1:1 is called type 2 and is a possible sign of genetic contamination. As a neighbor of me had few plant of ganja like hemp and even I was there checking about pulling all his males and herms I have begun to develop the idea that type 2 is not the original so I removed from my shop all seeds obtained from that lot and also the flowers I don’t make them anymore and I keep now only the ones with THC only.
So I’m not fully convinced because all this things nobody knows very well and you cannot go and study in the books about. I don’t know exactly what is the truth about type 1 and 2 if the type 2 was naturally there before or has come out later, but this is more or less the story. I do my best to preserve the most beautiful expressions of the Mekhong Classic that has a very strong personality and is immediately recognizable for the expert eye in the fields when grows with other landraces.
Now in the whole subdistrict I’m the only ganja grower so I’m lucky and I can control better and the only males that I let survive in the field at my farm in my village are the Mekhong Classic.
