Tigertail (Germany)

Hello everybody!

I’m honored to get invited by prem just in time to share my young Tigertail with you that I got from her last year.

For fun I’ve popped 2 seeds. One is really vigorous!

I’ll try to grow them out under a ceiling window..

Let’s see how much flowertime (if it’s female) she will get. After october it will get pretty dark here.

I’m wondering about if the strain will herm easily?

Does it herm allways/sometimes? Or only under stress?

Do the males herm aswell?

Hello so nice to see the Tiger tail growing in Germany! This are seeds from my selections?:partying_face::partying_face: :prempavee: :ganja:

Yes let’s see if she can do in time for the season there the photoperiod and also the temperature!

Subtropical varieties that I have been able to observe they all are prone to potentially herm but..

1- if everything is perfect for them herm rate is very low, stress or unusual light time can trigger higher percentage of herm (probably also different medium and nutrients have some influence on that, but I assume this only Theorically)

Something on my advise is usually not mentioned enough in the cannabis community: all ganja has the potential to herm due external factors (if this statement wasn’t true we did not had feminized seeds) but of course some genetics are more easy to do that than others

If you have only few plants like in your case you can remove manually the male sacks before they produce pollen in case they will herm. I did that sometimes to check how it goes and is a little pain (for some plants is easier for some others near to impossible), not exactly what a commercial growers want to do, but a craft grower in most cases can do as herm they also produce good flowers

Please keep us here updated with photos and description of what happens :raising_hands::tiger_face: :ganja:

Thanks for your detailed reply!

Since I have other plants flowering indoors, I can’t risk pollen while they’re in bloom.
We’ll see

I have an attic room with two south-facing windows (very important around here! :joy:) and I’ll use that space for small fun projects.
If she herms though, she’s out — that’s the deal :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

If she’s stable.. maybe I’ll even breed with her at some point.. or do a selection with the remaining seeds I still have
Yes, these are from your collection prem!
Very proud to own some.

I still have Tiger Tail and Golden Hair seeds.

My secret dream is to breed a guerrilla strain and I’ve already collected a few landraces.
These have now gone into the outdoor grow.
But that’s a topic of its own, I’ll definitely post about it separately

And regarding hermaphroditism, the question was more about whether it necessarily happens in this strain. So whether you’ve also seen Tiger Tails that stay purely female and maybe how rarely

Tiger Tails from my seeds selections they definetly stay stable, is only a small percentage that don’t

in the picture a field of over 1000 Tiger Tails trees in 2024 grown by a traditional farmer of my area , where my selection of seeds come from

Thank you so much for the Picture!

And the Information! This helps a lot.

I’m actually looking for a breeding male for my collection, so after knowing this i’d consider to use a thai

I thought the Tiger Tails won’t get as big as the Foi Tong so I started with it

They both can become very big. Tiger Tail usually gets taller than Foitong

Will definetly make a pheno Hunt /10 with the Foi tong prob next year

The tiger tail was amazing to see grow here in Ohio, USA last year. I unfortunately lost the hoop house cover I put over top. The December winds on an 20 degree night and didn’t get to the finish line. I Didn’t see my first pistols until first week of October which is our typical harvesting time.

There were Two plants there and saw no male sacks with the stress of snow during November along with the temp swings.

Very hardy genetics.

Wasn’t a failure just a learning lesson :ganja::seedling::green_heart:

Some of the biggest Tiger Tail I ever seen! With this we can go to play the battle of the trees with the MendoDope :grin::rofl::raising_hands: yes , other growers from similar climate areas how you did ? Did you manage to harvest in time?

Thank you a lot!

Amazing picture and absolute Ball Knowledge, this helps a lot!

I start to think this is going somewhere.

Outdoors here in october we simply have too much rain, cold and short days.

Will be tricky to flower it under a window with weak sunlight, but the extra time to veg it there gives me the opportunity to cut back and train to hopefully perfectly match that window bc I’ll have to use a smaller sized pot anyway.

Flower starting from october will last whole Winter until the days will start to get longer again. The harvest technically would be exactly when the new grow season starts again :joy:

at this Point I somewhat hope for a male I think. I could breed it into my selected Pakistan Valley and hunt for a shorter flower

And btw @Prempavee on that Picture it only Shows 1/2 of my Tiger Tails (TT). I’m pheno hunting some Nothern Lights and had the 2 TT randomly with them, the pictured TT is the strongest plant in that growtent and the Most resistent to heat  thriving where other strains struggle to grow.

(I’ll add pictures soon)

The other Tiger, which took longer to germ and is much more petite in grow and a bit less resistent to extreme climate has very exotic and lasting terps when I rub the stem - very different from it’s bigger sibling which simply smells herby/earthy.

Can you tell me more about the terps that are expexted with the TT?

Here I show 2 pictures of a Tiger Tails how she did this year in my garden. Because of the weather this year I planted them a little bit too late and they remained short. The flowers they was very sticky and very pleasant , also the Terps like green mango and sticky rice.

I post this picture here , that are quite atypical shape for a tiger tail to demostrate that depending on the light cicle you can determine the size.

Chaos selection Tent (leaving it with high humidity and made some mess )

We gotta roll with 3 plants here in Germany so this is a lot, okay?!:face_with_tongue:

//the bud to leaf ratio on your last pictured TT is crazy

The best Tiger Tail Landraces they don’t have many leaves. But because many year of prohibitions now the genetics they need a “refresh” you will found different types in the same genetic and seeds. So we need to select the one we prefer. Even I have read some debate about selection of landraces. Some experts they claim that Landraces are selected by natural adaptation more than agricultural reasons and as soon they are selected for harvest and crop they become Heirloom instead. But another people say that heirloom are genetics that long time ago they come from another area and the originals from a place are landraces even if selected for the farmers scopes instead of mere adaptation. So the debate on this topic seems still very open on the academic debate

This is the biggest Tigertail from last years season

They got severly stresstested with both light stress, rootbound from in hard clay soil, dried too much and overwatered not even on purpose

I grew 12or13 plants i think  and only two ladies showed male traits one earley managble hermie with a few sacks and one more severe

All the other plants was female

They are amazingly hardy plants

Unfortunately i didn’t get to finish the big one as it started revegging due to too late in the season

I’ve seen people growing them 12/12 from seed and finished indoors

The effect is very nice i have only tasted two phenoes but they are pretty strong nice up effect with a smooth ending of the trip they make my mind wander ( daydream) not a strain for focus like some sativas but more laidback listen to music or nature fantasy

They where cured one year so they might have more up effect when fresher

They had stronger smell after drying curing then on the plant for me

best of luck with yours this strain is absolutely good breeding material

I had to add that it is possible to get finished seeds if you pollinate her early seeds can be finished long before the bud is mature if not make too many on one plant

Thanks a lot for your Information! The more I get to know about this variety the more I get hyped up about growing it :joy:

mine startet to show some light stress - could also be from Fungus gnats i guess.

I’ll have to keep them in that tent for a while before the final Spot is cleared

Biggest plant and the small one above it are the Tiger Tails

(3 on the right are Nothern Lights)

Happy to contribute, but im no pro grower»i’m full of mistakes:joy:

Looks like they been a lill overwatered

I tend to do this in small pots because i’m scared they’ll dry out

Happens easy with cold temp or too high humidity

How is day and night temp?

And what are those freaks on the top? They look interresting

That growtent doesn’t have optimal conditions, nighttemp can fall pretty low and some water stress is possible.

I use this growtent to pre select or „Pheno Hunt" under stressfull conditions from time to time. I’ve dumped in the two thai’s just to fill the space and to Experiment a little. So the stress is intentional. Tent also misses an exhaust, humidity is up high. I usually only grow the plant’s that get through this.

The mutants are clones of my Banana Chem Freak. I’m absolutely in love with that variety.

Oh i see but then your spot on :joy: all my grows the last couple years have been stresstesting:sweat_smile: im learning to handle thai climate

Have you flowered them out yet, the freaks i mean

Would be fun to see how they flower :hibiscus:

I didn’t see the flower yet :see_no_evil_monkey:

I’m working with this freak for a year now.. I will soon tho. And I’ve placed the motherplant outside after cloneing it. I will make a new post on them in future

I’ve had some mutations especially in DJsjort’s genetics but nothing as extreeme as u got there

Mine have been very slow growers though

I have found them liking higher humidity better, i don’t know if that is strain related or to the specific mutation

Fun to see what you get anyway
